Biography
Elizabeth Ball is a producer, director and arts consultant. She was the founder of Carousel Theatre Company and School and served as Managing Artistic Director for twenty-seven years. She was co-founder of The Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island. She has received major awards from the Canada Council for the Arts, the B.C. Cultural Fund, the U.S. State Department and the State of Kentucky. She was Vice-Chair of the Board of the Vancouver Civic Theatres for over a decade and was Artistic Producer for the Orpheum Theatre 75th Anniversary Celebration. She is President of the B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame and is on the Board of Studio 58 Theatre School and is Founder of the Mavor Moore Theatre Society. She has worked as an actor, teacher, and director with the Vancouver Playhouse, the University of British Columbia, the Arts Club Theatre, and City Stage. International credits include her work with the Nederlander Productions on Broadway, and in London and Sweden on the musical Chess by Tim Rice and ABBA. She taught at The University of British Columbia and has been a guest director for a number of distinguished theatres and universities. As an executive officer of the Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance, Elizabeth served on the National Executive of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres for almost a decade. She was on the Public Art Committee which created the first public art policy in Vancouver. Her groundbreaking work in multi-cultural projects over the years led to the City of Vancouver Cultural Harmony Award for her company. During her recent three years on Vancouver City Council, Ms. Ball was a major champion for the arts, served on the first Metro Committee for Culture and made many important events possible including the recent and very successful Juno Awards....
